Normalize the need for support. Many students (and professors) do not see identifying and obtaining aid as a sign of strength. We must state firmly that it is and demonstrate respect for our own and our students' humanity in seeking the care they (and we) may require. Students who receive official and informal support to care for their physical, academic, emotional, or social health report that these interventions are generally effective. Emphasizing the necessity of understanding when we need help and where to find it is also an essential component of learning. Normalizing this across classes can be extremely beneficial and protective for all of us.
